Uses and Benefits
Sinarest Syrup 60ml is mainly prescribed to treat common cold, fever, reduce ear pain, allergy, headache, hay fever, running nose, flu, joint pain, itchy throat or skin, and toothache, etc. In addition, this medicine is also used as an alkalinizing agent. However, the uses mentioned here are not exhaustive. There may be other conditions for which this medication may be used upon a doctor’s discretion.
Composition
The active ingredients of Sinarest Syrup 60ml are Chlorpheniramine Maleate 1mg, Paracetamol also known as (Acetaminophen) 125mg, Phenylephrine 5mg, and Sodium Citrate 60mg.
Mechanism of Action of Drugs
Chlorpheniramine Maleate basically tames allergy symptoms by attaching to histamine receptors. Histamines are responsible for allergic and inflammatory reactions. Chlorpheniramine Maleate blocks the action of the endogenous histamine, by reducing the negative symptoms brought on by histamine.
Paracetamol (or Acetaminophen) primarily acts as an analgesic and an antipyretic agent. It also possesses anti-inflammatory properties. It produces its analgesic effects by increasing the pain threshold and antipyresis by acting on the hypothalamic heat-regulating center.
Phenylephrine acts on alpha-adrenergic receptors, thus helps to reduce nasal congestion, allergies, fever and reduces swollen blood vessels in the nasal passage, if any.
Sodium Citrate is used as an alkalizing agent.
Contraindications and Caution
Patients with the following conditions are suggested to seek advice from their health care professionals before taking the Sinarest syrup 60ml:
- Hypersensitivity to any of the components used in the Sinarest Syrup 60ml such as Chlorpheniramine maleate, Paracetamol (or Acetaminophen) Phenylephrine, and Sodium Citrate
- Urinary retention
- Sodium restriction
- Renal impairment, sever
- Caution:
- Asthma
- Arrhythmias
- Renal impairment
- Cardiac failure
- HTN
- Edema
- Toxemia
- Hypocalcemia
Side and Adverse Effects
The following side effects may or may not occur during the usage of Sinarest syrup 60ml. It is generally well tolerated when taken in the prescribed dosage guidelines. More common ones are generally mild and may include:
- Nausea
- Skin rash
- Skin reddening
- Allergic reactions
- Shortness of breath
- Feeling of sickness
- Tinnitus
- Dryness of mouth
- Decreased appetite
- Anemia
- Mouth ulcer
- Gastric problems
- Palpitation
- Dizziness
- Abdominal discomfort
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
Rare but more serious adverse effects may include:
- Anxiety
- Reflex bradycardia
- Tachycardia
- Arrhythmia
- Gangrene
- Hypertension
- Seizures
- Metabolic alkalosis
How to Use
Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.
Sinarest Syrup 60ml is meant for oral administration. Shake the bottle well before consuming. Dosage can be administered with the cap that comes along with the container.
Avoid missing or forgetting a dose. If you do, take it as soon as you remember; but if it is almost time for your next dose, skip it and take it according to your normal schedule. Don’t consume two doses at the same time which is dangerous to your health.
Do not exceed more than 4 doses in a day or take it as directed by your doctor at the prescribed dosage and time.
Overdosage
Avoid taking more than the prescribed dosage. In case of an accidental overdose, promptly seek medical advice. Depending on the dosage, symptoms may vary but you may experience one or more of the following signs or symptoms:
- Vomiting
- Hypertension
- Palpitation
- Paresthesia
- Ventricular extrasystoles
Warnings and Precautions
Take Sinarest syrup 60ml only on the advice of a medical practitioner. Dosage adjustment or complete avoidance of the medication may be required in the following conditions:
Pregnancy:
Paracetamol (Acetaminophen): This may be used during pregnancy – no known risk of fetal harm.
Chlorpheniramine: May be used during pregnancy – the risk of fetal harm is low based on human data.
Phenylephrine: Avoid use in the 1st trimester, caution advised in 2nd and 3rd trimesters.
Sodium Citrate: Exercise caution, safety during pregnancy has not yet established.
Lactation:
Caution advised in case if you are a nursing mother because safety during lactation has not yet established.
Alcohol:
Consumption of alcohol along with Sinarest syrup 60ml may increase the hepatic risk.
Driving:
Since consuming this medicine would induce sleep/cause dizziness, do not drive, operate heavy machinery or involve in any works which may demand your attention/physical strength.
Drug Interactions:
Exercise caution when used with other medicines. Therefore inform your doctor about your current list of medicines which you start or stop.
Precautions
- Keep the Sinarest Syrup 60ml out of sight and reach of children.
- Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture.
- Do not use the medicine beyond its expiry.
- Do not accept the unsealed container.

Category C: Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant the use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
